Who receives the donations?

All donations will go directly to my (David Balmain) PayPal account.

Why the decision to start accepting donations?

Ferret is one of the largest Ruby projects with in excess of 70,000 lines of code (including 20,000 lines of test code). The majority of that has been written from scratch by myself in the last six months and has taken up a huge amount of my time. For a project of this size to keep growing and improving, it will require the combined effort of the community. Unfortunately due to the complexity of the code and the fact that it is a Ruby project written in C, many people are unable to contribute technically. It is now possible for those people to contribute financially.

How are you going to use the donations?

For starters, contributions will go towards the cost of hosting the Ferret website. I would also like to invest in a Mac so that I can test and fix any issues with Ferret on OS X. Apart from that, any extra cash will give me time to improve test coverage and add new features to continue the improvement of Ferret.

I have a feature request that I would be willing to pay for. How do I make the request?

If you make a donation, please feel free to add your requests to the WishList?. If you really must have a feature added and you are willing to pay full price, please contact me on dbalmain@gmail.com.

Any recognition for donors (list, linkback, plaque in city hall, etc)?
